ESCOBEDO ROCKS the blogspot!!

If you know me, you know that I have never been a big fan of poetry. (I can hear Mrs. Andrada laughing now!) I have always felt like it should rhyme…you know….cat and the hat and all that… Well, we are deep in the midst of our poetry unit and it is starting to grow on me.

Hold your pants on boys and girls…I didn’t say i was a poetry lover. I just said that it is starting to grow on me…

So, with that being said, choose something that you love, search the internet, and post a poem. I would love to read some of the poems that you find cool…

I have been such a slacker this year at updating my blog. I am only a few minutes away from popping a roast-beast in the oven, but i thought i could use this time to say Merry Christmas…blah, blah, blah…

Yes, I am a TOTAL grinch this year… just not feelin’ the Christmas Spirit. I am normally all about Christmas: the lights, the decorations, the music, friends, family, GIFTS. Seriously…there are NO better holidays than Christmas! Don’t know why i’m in a funk???

Just am.

Anyway, today we are having Christmas dinner at my house, and presents after that. Santa will come tonight, and the tree comes down tomorrow. I know! Tomorrow’s Christmas! Whatevah! The tree is still coming down!

The Grinch

(Have I ever mentioned that this is one of my MOST FAVORITIST MOVIES EVAH!!!)

Yesterday was one of those proud to be an American moments.

I came to Corcoran because Art, Alec and Mia wanted to come see the Cotton Parade. (Actually, I did too, but I had work to do in my classroom.) Anyway, while I was working, I hear the sound of fighter jets passing over. Because that is the coolest thing ever, I ran outside to check it out. Not only was there one, but four. Then all of the sudden, there were four more, then two more, then three more. What??? I thought I counted 13 at one point. They kept circling over Corcoran, round and round. Everytime they flew over, I ran outside. It wasn’t even like I was showing my kids. I just think it’s cool.  At one point, I was outside and the jets were flying in two large clusters. There were 19 or 21 of them. It was hard to tell because sometimes they look like thier stacked and it’s hard to count.

At one point, one of the jets broke away from the pack and flew really low over the top of the town. I figured they were doing a “fly by” over the top of the Kids Day Festival at the park. Anyway, the jet flew over the top of my class.  The building was shaking, and the sound was deafening. Goosebumps. It’s times like that that make you feel proud to live in America.

p.s. I’m working on adding music to this blog. The perfect song to add here would be Proud to be an American.

She was sent to us for a reason, and I am grateful.

We could laugh together, cry together, fight with each other and still we would say,

“But I love you though…”

Just thought I would post a quick note on the kinds of supplies that you will need in sixth grade…These are the supplies that you will be required to have at all times in MY classroom.  When you run out of something, it is YOUR responsibility to replenish it! You need to know that other teachers may reqiure other items. For example, you will  need a protractor for math, but not for language. Annissa and Alec can’t wait to go shopping for school supplies!

REQUIRED:

One 3-inch “D-ring” binder (Some language arts teachers will provide this, but if you are in my room, you will need to bring one.)

One zippered pencil pouch. (It must be able to attach to binder rings.)

8 binder dividers

Hole reinforcements

College ruled paper

#2 pencils and erasers (many students like pencil top erasers)

colored pencils & crayons

blue or black pens

scissors

pencil sharpener that catches shavings

pink, yellow & green highlighters

glue sticks

ruler

Optional items:

Protractor

USB Flash Drive (All Language Arts students will have laptops to use at school.)

[Update: All classes EXCEPT6th grade language arts! ;-(]

It would also be helpful to have a quiet place to work at home with access to a dictionary and a thesaurus.

Ann’s mother handed her a sheet of paper. “Here is your summer chore schedule,” she said. ” It begins on July 1.” Ann moaned, “Oh no! You mean I have to wash the car every sixth day, take out the trash every third day, and clean up my room every twelfth day?” If Ann continues with this schedule through August, how many times will she have to do all three chores on the same day?
