Back to school night 09-10

I would like to thank the parents who came to Back to School night last night. It was nice to see you!! If you came to back to school night, you participated in a Back to School Night Scavenger Hunt. The purpose of the Scavenger Hunt was two-fold. It was to show you, the parent, the important areas of our room: grades posting, AR words, agenda, writing, etc…And it was a test to see if your students is familiar with our room and where things are.

The bottom of the sheet also had a cut-off piece to put on your fridge. On the sheet in my phone number, email and blog address. Please  look for this to come home with your student.

Also, while our kids were scavenging the room, I played a picture slideshow of kids throughout the  day. I will be adding to this throughout the year…stay tuned….

Thanks again,

Mrs. Escobedo

“Every Who down in Who-ville liked Christmas a lot … but the Grinch, who lived just north of Corcoran did not!”

I have been such a slacker this year at updating my blog. I am only a few minutes away from popping a roast-beast in the oven, but i thought i could use this time to say Merry Christmas…blah, blah, blah…

Yes, I am a TOTAL grinch this year… just not feelin’ the Christmas Spirit. I am normally all about Christmas: the lights, the decorations, the music, friends, family, GIFTS. Seriously…there are NO better holidays than Christmas! Don’t know why i’m in a funk???

Just am.

Anyway, today we are having Christmas dinner at my house, and presents after that. Santa will come tonight, and the tree comes down tomorrow. I know! Tomorrow’s Christmas! Whatevah! The tree is still coming down!

What are you doing? Drop me a post and fill me in on what you and your family are doing for the holidays…

Merry Christmas from H-ville,

The Grinch

(Have I ever mentioned that this is one of my MOST FAVORITIST MOVIES EVAH!!!)

Proud to be an American…

Yesterday was one of those proud to be an American moments.

I came to Corcoran because Art, Alec and Mia wanted to come see the Cotton Parade. (Actually, I did too, but I had work to do in my classroom.) Anyway, while I was working, I hear the sound of fighter jets passing over. Because that is the coolest thing ever, I ran outside to check it out. Not only was there one, but four. Then all of the sudden, there were four more, then two more, then three more. What??? I thought I counted 13 at one point. They kept circling over Corcoran, round and round. Everytime they flew over, I ran outside. It wasn’t even like I was showing my kids. I just think it’s cool.  At one point, I was outside and the jets were flying in two large clusters. There were 19 or 21 of them. It was hard to tell because sometimes they look like thier stacked and it’s hard to count.

At one point, one of the jets broke away from the pack and flew really low over the top of the town. I figured they were doing a “fly by” over the top of the Kids Day Festival at the park. Anyway, the jet flew over the top of my class.  The building was shaking, and the sound was deafening. Goosebumps. It’s times like that that make you feel proud to live in America. ;-)

p.s. I’m working on adding music to this blog. The perfect song to add here would be Proud to be an American.

Touched…

She was sent to us for a reason, and I am grateful.

We could laugh together, cry together, fight with each other and still we would say,

“But I love you though…” ;-)

Up With People…

Last week was the Up with People Assembly at our school. During our two hour class presentation, Gina wrote the following quote on the whiteboard,

“It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And, it isn’t enough to believe in it, one must work at it.”

                                                                                       –Eleanor Roosevelt

What did she mean by that? What does that quote mean to you?

Here is the link to thier blog. Also, each one of the people from our room has thier own blog.
